(Image: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>The Rhode Island-based regional casino operator has yet to confirm the deal, but media reports indicate the gaming company is now in control of the parkland located at 450 Hutchinson Parkway. That property is part of the 300 acres on which Bally\u2019s Golf Links at Ferry Point sits.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bally\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/trump-org-sold-golf-course-lease-to-ballys-for-60m\/\">paid the Trump Organization<\/a> \u2014 the president\u2019s business empire \u2014 $60 million to acquire the lease on Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in the Bronx. Along with alterations to the golf course\u2019s parking lot and a portion of its practice area, the 16 acres acquired by Bally\u2019s will be the site of the operator\u2019s $4 billion integrated resort.<\/p>\n<p>Bally\u2019s landed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/ballys-bronx-metropolitan-park-resorts-world-granted-licenses\/\">one of three<\/a> New York City-area gaming licenses in December. Its initial license term with the state is 15 years.<\/p>\n<h2>Ownership of Bronx Casino Land Is Important for Bally\u2019s<\/h2>\n<p>Bally\u2019s direct ownership of the land on which the Bronx casino will reside is vital for various reasons, including making it easier to start the expensive project on time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>Additionally, by owning the land, the gaming company may find it easier to identify financing options, which are likely needed to bring the project across the finish line. Following the acquisition, Bally\u2019s may be able to borrow against the land or sell it to another entity to raise cash.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>As for how Bally\u2019s will finance the Bronx casino, Gaming and Leisure Properties (NASDAQ: GLPI) &#8212; the casino operator\u2019s primary landlord &#8212; said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/glpi-unlikely-to-fully-finance-ballys-bronx-casino\/\">it\u2019d be interested in a piece<\/a> of the New York action, but it expects there will be multiple contenders to extend capital to Bally\u2019s. It\u2019s possible it will offer more favorable terms than the gaming real estate investment trust (REIT).<\/p>\n<h2>Busy Week for Bally\u2019s<\/h2>\n<p>In terms of acquisitions, it\u2019s been a busy week for Bally\u2019s &#8212; a company with a well-documented history of deal-making. News of the New York land deal emerged just two days after Bally\u2019s announced it agreed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/louisiana-purchase-ballys-buys-boyd-shreveport-casino\/\">to buy the<\/a> Sam\u2019s Town Hotel &amp; Casino in Shreveport, La. from Boyd Gaming (NYSE: BYD).<\/p>\n<p><strong>When that transaction wraps up, Bally\u2019s will run four casinos in Louisiana.
